The King of Character Returns! McGregor Joins Disney+'s Star Wars TV Series

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Ewan McGregor is "in discussions to return to his role as Obi-Wan for an Obi-Wan-centric series on Disney+." Meanwhile, Deadline has a similar report, stating that the Obi-Wan-centric series has yet to be named.

McGregor first played Obi-Wan in 1999's Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (the first prequel film) and continued to play Obi-Wan throughout the prequel trilogy (Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith).

In the original trilogy (Star Wars 4: A New Hope, Star Wars 5: The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars 6: Return of the Jedi), the elderly Obi-Wan was played by the late Sir Alec Guinness. Although he was killed by Darth Vader at the beginning, he continued to guide Luke Skywalker in the form of a Force ghost.

There have been rumors that there will be a movie starring Obi-Wan, telling the story of Obi-Wan protecting young Luke between 3 and 4, but this rumor has never been confirmed.

The TV series, which is being prepared, will join The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Cassian Andor to form a three-legged Star Wars series lineup and land on Disney+, the latest paid subscription channel to be launched on November 12, 2019, at $6.99 per month and $69.99 per year.

The focus of new "Star Wars" development has shifted from movies to TV series, which is also part of Disney's plan to slow down the pace of movies. This year's "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" will put an end to the Skywalker legend.
