'Toy Story 4' becomes Disney's fifth $1 billion movie this year

"Toy Story 4" has officially surpassed the $1 billion milestone at the global box office, becoming the fifth $1 billion movie released by Disney in 2019.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this achievement has allowed Disney to surpass the previous record of four billion-dollar movies in a year. In addition, Toy Story 4 has become the fourth animated film from Pixar Studios to break the billion-dollar mark, following Incredibles 2, Finding Dory and Toy Story 3.

"Toy Story" grossed $421.8 million in the United States and $579.9 million in other regions, totaling $1.002 billion from its premiere on June 21 to August 14.

Disney's billion-dollar movies released this year include "The Lion King," "Aladdin," "Avengers 4: Endgame," and "Captain Marvel." Later this year, two highly anticipated movies, "Frozen 2" and "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," are poised to make more than $1 billion.

Spider-Man: Far From Home, released by Sony, is the only billion-dollar movie outside of Disney, but it also counts as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Toy Story 4 is the 43rd film in history to reach $1 billion at the box office.
