The classic 1990s game Streets of Rage is going to be made into a movie. According to Deadline, the upcoming video game adaptation is currently in preparation, and Derek Kolstad, the screenwriter of the John Wick trilogy and Nobody, is writing the script. Considering the high reputation and box office of the recent game-adapted movie "Sonic the Hedgehog", it is obviously a good time for Sega to adapt its IP into a movie. Streets of Rage was originally released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis and has since spawned multiple sequels. This side-scrolling action game tells the story of two former police officers who take to the streets to fight a vicious criminal gang. Since its release, Streets of Rage has been available on Xbox One, PS4, and even Nintendo Switch. Streets of Rage is generally considered a classic among gamers of a certain age, so it was a natural choice for a successful action director to adapt it for the big screen. Streets of Rage will be the latest video game adaptation produced by DJ2 Entertainment following the box office success of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The company is also developing the It Takes Two movie. Currently, Derek Kolstad is busy developing Just Watch Me, an upcoming heist film starring Gerard Butler based on the best-selling novel by Dexter writer Jeff Lindsay. Although Kolstad is not involved, John Wick 4 and John Wick 5 are still in production. |
