The Mortal Kombat reboot accurately restores the game's finishing moves while telling a new story

Earlier this month, Greg Russo, the screenwriter of the Mortal Kombat reboot, confirmed on Twitter that the film will be a standard R-rated film, full of bloody and exaggerated death fights. In addition, the classic execution shots of the series will also be reflected in the film, but the screenwriter said that the film will not be just a cool "demonstration showcase."

"Is it faithful to the games? Of course it is," Russo told Comicbook. "I can say for sure that we will accurately reproduce the death execution shots from the games in the film."

"We're going to come up with something new that we've never seen before, but at the same time we want to...if we use this vehicle, we want to make sure it's not just a showcase, but we want to give it story meaning. So every plot in the story will be key and show the villain to the fullest, and you know, this movie is not just about showing off the ultimate moves."

The reboot of Mortal Kombat will be released on March 5, 2021. The film was first revealed as early as 2011 and was produced by New Line Cinema, but the filming list has only been finalized in recent years. The film was shot in South Australia and is also the largest filming project in the region's history. Screenwriter Greg Russo is familiar with game adaptations. He was responsible for the scripts of Resident Evil and Saints Row, and also wrote some scenes for the yet-to-be-released Monster Hunter movie.
