Hideo Kojima explains Spider-Man's similarities to Japanese superheroes

Of all the American superheroes, there is one that the Japanese love the most: Spider-Man. In a recent interview, Hideo Kojima explained the similarities between Spider-Man and Japanese heroes, and why Spider-Man is so popular with Japanese audiences.

Kojima told Famitsu that he thought the first X-Men was a cool action movie for adults, "while Sam Raimi's Spider-Man is more for younger audiences, a young fantasy movie. Not to mock him, I really like Raimi's Spider-Man."

Famitsu asked Hideo Kojima which American comic character he likes the most, and he answered that Batman is probably his favorite. "He is a hero with concerns, which is very similar to many Japanese heroes." Hideo Kojima said that he likes Japanese comic heroes such as Kamen Rider and Tiger Mask.

Hideo Kojima said that heroes without any weaknesses or very rich heroes are not attractive to him. So he likes superhero characters such as Spider-Man and The Flash, and he also likes the TV series of The Flash.

"Spider-Man was an ordinary person before, but he accidentally turned into a masked superhero, which is very similar to Kamen Rider." Kamen Rider was also an ordinary person, but he was kidnapped by an evil terrorist organization and turned into a grasshopper mutant. After escaping, he became the Kamen Rider who fights against evil.
