The director of "Star Wars 8" watched the trailer of "Star Wars 9": He laughed like a child

Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi, said that he wanted to enjoy Star Wars 9 like an ordinary Star Wars fan. Today, Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker officially announced the subtitle and trailer, and Rian Johnson also shared his feelings.

Rian Johnson expressed his love for the trailer and his anticipation for the next movie on Twitter:

"I loved every moment of it. I became a happy kid again. If I had to say, I would have been smiling in a dream today."

Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode IX was criticized by some fans for not matching the tone set by the previous film. In particular, the fact that the heroine Rey's parents were just nobody surprised many people, and the fact that the villain Snoke died so casually made the threat he posed unconvincing. Some people suggested that JJ Abrams, the director of Star Wars: Episode VII, be invited back to take charge of Star Wars: Episode IX. However, judging from the trailer, Star Wars: Episode IX fully inherits the plot foundation of Star Wars: Episode IX. Johnson himself doesn't mind how Abrams handles the next film.

Snoke is now truly dead, so it’s the resurrected Emperor Palpatine who takes on the role of villain in The Rise of Skywalker. At the end of the trailer, we hear his iconic laugh, and to make sure there’s no misunderstanding, actor Ian McDiarmid makes an appearance on stage.

In the final chapter of this latest trilogy, not only Emperor Palpatine reappears, but also "Death Star 2", where Palpatine died. "Star Wars 9" is set a few years after the end of "Star Wars 8", so each character has grown more or less, but the "Rise of Skywalker" in the subtitle is still unclear.

Finally, this latest work not only has old faces, but also newcomers, including Jannah, played by Naomi Ackie. A fan asked her if she was playing the daughter of Lando Calrissian, but she did not give a direct answer to this question, neither denying nor confirming.
