Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker releases first plot details

At today's Star Wars Celebration, Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker released trailers, stills and a lot of new information.

Although the actors present at the event kept the plot strictly confidential (even director JJ Abrams had to sneak a peek at Lucasfilm President Kennedy before answering a question, which made people smile), we still learned a lot of new information about the film for the first time.

- Kennedy confirmed that this film will be the end of the Skywalker family saga and the end of the story of the original Star Wars film since 1977.

- As the end of the new generation trilogy, Abrams said: "This movie is not only the end of the trilogy, but also a complete story in itself. It tells the story of what the new generation inherits, the light and the darkness, and asks the question when they face the most powerful evil, are they ready?"

- Abrams confirmed that there will be a gap between the beginning of Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker and Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi.

- Although "Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi" scattered the protagonists across the galaxy, "The Rise of Skywalker" will allow them to gather again to embark on an adventure.

- Abrams confirmed that a later-looking Carrie Fisher will reprise her role as Princess Leia in this film, using deleted scenes from the first two films and a miracle of technology.

- Abrams and other screenwriters wrote the appropriate script based on the footage Fisher left behind so that she could have a proper performance in the film.

- Ackie did not confirm or deny whether the new character she plays, Jaanah, is the daughter of the returning old character Lando. But she added with a smile, "Lando is a very charming person, he may leave children all over the universe, that's all I'll say." Anyway, her character's costume and cape look very Lando-style.

- Someone asked Rey if she fixed Luke's lightsaber after it was cut in half, to which actor Ridley simply replied: "It's still alive."

- There will be no shirtless Kylo Ren in this movie.

- John Boyega doesn't confirm that Finn and Rose are in a relationship (he jokingly says Finn is in a relationship with everyone), but he does seem to imply that the two have been in an on-again, off-again relationship by the time the film unfolds.

- Someone asked whether Rey developed more powerful Force abilities in this movie, and screenwriter Abrams and actor Ridley were evasive, seeming to imply that Rey could perform more spectacular abilities.

- The droid BB-8 will get a new droid friend "Dio".

Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker is expected to premiere on December 20, 2019.
