Tencent invests in Terminator 2019 and will be responsible for marketing in mainland China

Cameron's reboot of Terminator 2019 (Terminator: Dark Fate) has revealed new news that Tencent Pictures will be responsible for the film's marketing in mainland China. At the "One Flower, One World" UP2019 Tencent New Cultural and Creative Ecosystem Conference held yesterday, Tencent Group Vice President and Tencent Pictures CEO Cheng Wu also updated the latest 2019 film list.

Among the eye-catching projects is "Terminator 2019". The new version of "Terminator" invested and produced by Tencent Pictures will be made into a trilogy. Tencent is responsible for the publicity and promotion of the film in mainland China. The film will be released in the United States on November 1 this year.

In addition, the script of the film version of "The Secret of Tibet" produced by Huang Jianxin is being polished. The original novel has a total of 10 parts, and Tencent will create a series of film versions and TV series; "The First Separation", which won the Best Film of the International Jury of the New Generation Unit of the Berlin Film Festival this year, has also updated its progress and will be released in the summer; "The Eight Hundred" directed by Guan Hu has previously exposed its first trailer and attracted much attention. The entire film was shot with a digital IMAX camera, which is a first for Chinese-language films; in addition, Jackie Chan's "Raging Sand Storm" and "The Whistleblower", in which Xue Xiaolu and Tang Wei collaborated again, are also key projects of Tencent.

Cheng Wu revealed that in 2018, Tencent Pictures participated in the production and distribution of 15 films and 6 TV series. It also established a wholly-owned subsidiary, Tencent Pictures Distribution Company, and participated in the promotion and distribution of 6 domestic and foreign works.

Over the past three years, Tencent Pictures has been committed to long-term content layout and capacity building, and has grown steadily from its earliest participation in investment and support for works to taking on more major investment, control, and joint development roles.

It is reported that at the UP Conference, the heads of Tencent's six digital cultural businesses, including film and television, literature, animation, music, e-sports, and games, all shared their business in turn based on the new cultural and creative strategy. This is also the concentrated appearance of Tencent's new cultural and creative related businesses after the third strategic upgrade and structural adjustment in September last year.

Shan Jixiang, Director of the Palace Museum, Mai Jia, a famous writer and screenwriter, Ilkka Paananen, co-founder and CEO of Supercell, Scott Martin, a leading figure in game application value research and founding director of VSGI, and Tom Donaldson, senior vice president of the LEGO Group's Creative Play Lab, and other guests from the Chinese and foreign cultural and creative industries shared their views from different dimensions.
