According to foreign media reports, director Andrew Lau will shoot an English version of Young and Dangerous, which is adapted from the comic book of the same name. Pulse Films and Andrew Lau have reached this cooperation, and Thomas Benski (The Witch), Dimitra Tsingou (Romeo and Juliet) and Brian Levy (30/40) will serve as producers. Young and Dangerous is a Hong Kong comic with the theme of triads. The editor-in-chief is Niu Lao and the main writer is Lun Yuguo. It began serialization in 1992 and is one of the longest-running Chinese comics still in publication. Liu Weiqiang filmed a series of Young and Dangerous movies in the 1990s. The comic focuses on the ups and downs of the protagonist Chen Haonan, exploring the love of brothers and the loyalty of the underworld, as well as the generational conflicts and power struggles within the underground organized crime group. But it is not clear whether the film adaptation will be set in Hong Kong or in the West. Director Andrew Lau, who gained fame in Europe and the United States for films such as Infernal Affairs, said: "I have always been attracted to brotherhood and the struggles provoked by betrayal. I am very happy to work with Pulse Films to introduce the world of Young and Dangerous to a whole new generation and a whole new audience." |
