World War Z 2 Cancelled Due to High Production Costs

According to overseas media reports, Paramount has confirmed the cancellation of the filming plan for World War Z 2. It is said that the huge production cost of the film is one of the reasons for the cancellation of the project. Although the plan proposed by director David Fincher and his team stated that the cost of the sequel would be lower than that of the previous film, which cost $190 million (excluding reshoots), Paramount obviously did not approve it.

Juan Antonio Bayona, the original director of World War Z 2, withdrew in early 2016, and David Fincher later joined. A previous report from Production Weekly showed that the sequel to World War Z 2, directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt, was named Maximilian and was originally expected to start production at the end of March, with filming taking place in Spain, Thailand and Atlanta.

The original World War Z is a Max Brooks novel about humanity's war against the undead. But the movie has little in common with the book. The production of the first film was notoriously chaotic, with director Marc Forster reportedly clashing with Pitt and other crew members, and the film also underwent extensive reshoots.

In addition, Paramount's current major projects are the two big productions "Mission: Impossible 7" and "Mission: Impossible 8". "Mission: Impossible 7" will be released on July 23, 2021, and "Mission: Impossible 8" will be released on August 5, 2022.
