Netflix raises prices again, average increase of 15.5%

According to foreign media reports, Netflix's standard definition video service plan has increased from US$8 to US$9 (about RMB 61) per month, the 1080p HD video plan has increased from US$11 to US$13 (about RMB 88) per month, and the premium 4K video plan has increased from US$14 to US$16 (about RMB 108) per month.

Netfilix's standard definition video service allows users to play one show or movie on one device at a time in standard definition, the 1080p HD video service allows users to stream to two devices at the same time in 1080p, and the premium 4K service allows users to play 1080p and 4K videos on up to four devices at the same time. It is reported that Netflix's price increase this time is the largest in the history of streaming services, with a 13-18% increase in charges compared to the past. This price increase will take effect immediately for all new registered users and will be phased in for Netflix's existing users in the coming months. This is the fourth price increase for Netflix since its launch in 2007.

Netflix shares also rose 6% as the subscription price hike was announced, as the price increase is definitely a huge benefit for the financial backers of the streaming giant. Some other countries and regions (those in Latin America and the Caribbean) will also receive higher tax rates. However, some major international markets (including Mexico and Brazil) will not be affected by this change. While normal price increases are in line with market rules, this price increase may be Netflix's attempt to offset the growing costs in its recent acquisition spree. Netflix reportedly made more money than most Hollywood studios last year, and Netflix has also formed its own original film studio.
