New Superman movie to be shot entirely in IMAX format

James Gunn says the new Superman movie will be shot entirely in IMAX format.

One of the most iconic superheroes in screen history is about to return, and director James Gunn clearly knows this well. He confirmed through his personal social media account Threads that this Superman movie will be shot entirely using IMAX technology to bring a shocking viewing experience to the audience.

This superhero blockbuster will be released in the summer of 2025. David Cronuswaite will play the Man of Steel for the first time, starting a new series of movies. This announcement also shows that Warner Bros. is confident in the grand scale of the project.

Previous works mostly portrayed Superman Clark Kent as an experienced hero, but "Superman" will put the protagonist in a more complicated situation: a young man struggling to balance his career as a reporter and saving Metropolis.

The film will also feature other classic characters from the Superman mythos, including Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), setting the stage for Clark's latest adventure. While Henry Cavill's version of Superman is the earliest established hero in the DC Cinematic Universe, David Cronuswaite's Superman will inhabit a world where many powerful characters already exist.
