Ashes of Time will be filmed in 72 episodes, the plot is quite different from the movie version

According to the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television's November TV series shooting and production filing announcement, the Hong Kong classic martial arts film "Ashes of Time" directed by Wong Kar-wai will be filmed into a costume TV series with a total of 72 episodes, and filming started in November this year.

However, according to the plot synopsis, the TV version of Ashes of Time is very different from the movie version. The TV version mainly tells the story of the Southern Emperor, the Northern Beggar, and the Central God of War who went to Mount Huashan to compete for the Nine Yin Manual, and after losing to Wang Chongyang, they practiced martial arts separately.

The movie "Ashes of Time" directed by Wong Kar-wai was released in 1994. It starred a top lineup including Leslie Cheung, Brigitte Lin, Tony Leung, Maggie Cheung, Joey Wong, Jacky Cheung, etc. It was once called an alternative peak of Chinese martial arts movies and has a Douban score of 8.5.

The film tells the story of Ouyang Feng (Leslie Cheung) who left Baituo Mountain sadly and became a killer broker on the night his lover (Maggie Cheung) married his brother out of spite. His friend, the romantic swordsman Huang Yaoshi (Tony Leung Ka Fai), comes to the town every year to drink with him, but he is also obsessed with Taohua (Carina Lau), the wife of his friend "Blind Warrior" (Tony Leung Chiu Wai); and for the woman Murong Yan (Brigitte Lin) who is obsessed with him, he is unwilling to fulfill the promise he once made casually, which makes Murong Yan lost in her own identity.
