Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is about to be released, but there are still voices of criticism for Johnny Depp's continued performance in the film. In April this year, the British newspaper The Sun published an article titled "How can J.K. Rowling be 'genuinely happy' about casting Johnny Depp, a wife beater, in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald?", describing Depp as a "wife beater".

Depp and his ex-wife Heard

Recently, Johnny Depp broke his silence for the first time in an interview with foreign media, talking about the domestic violence scandal accused by his ex-wife Heard, and why he was able to continue to star in "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald".

Depp said he would never do that. "Hurting the people you love? Like bullying? No, that doesn't sound like me at all, so at first I just kept my mouth shut, you know? I knew these shits would stick to me and get weirder and weirder." So Depp let a lawyer handle the relevant matters.

Depp was upset that his children had also heard about the allegations of abuse. "I'm doing this for my kids, man. How can people publish that kind of stuff to discredit somebody when the truth is not known? I'm sure it's hard for my 14-year-old son to go to school right now, you know what I mean? 'Hey man, look at this magazine, your dad beats somebody up or something' Why is he going through that? Why is my daughter going through that too?"

Depp also said that he did not hit anyone at all, and that the police found nothing when they arrived that day. The police suggested that she go to the hospital but she refused. However, she had bruises on her face a few days later. In addition, Depp also revealed that he was the one who was beaten.

As for continuing to star in "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald", Depp said that he had shown J.K. Rowling the evidence, so she knew he was being slandered, and that's why she publicly supported him to continue to star in the film. J.K. Rowling issued a statement on Twitter last year, saying that because of a privacy agreement to protect both parties, she could not discuss the matter publicly with fans, but that Depp was happy to continue to play an important role in the film. Later, Depp's ex-wife Heard also publicly stated that Rowling was wrong to support the attacker to star in the movie.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Depp said that he felt sorry for Rowling for having to bear all kinds of emotions from people for this matter, but in fact he was indeed falsely accused, so he sued The Sun for repeating false accusations to defam him, and Rowling had seen the evidence and knew that she was wronged, so she publicly supported him. If she didn't know the facts, she wouldn't have spoken out.

Depp's legal team also spoke to the media, saying that Heard's legal team was very dissatisfied with Depp's clarification of his remarks, but Depp's side will submit evidence to the British court next month, including photos, eyewitness testimony and other "overwhelming evidence."

"Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" will be released in North America on November 16 this year. Depp has confirmed that he will continue to play the role of Grindelwald in the third film in the series.
