Netflix to film first Chinese original TV series "Dream of the Sinner" with large scale and possible nudity scenes

According to Weibo blogger Dushe Movie, Netflix will shoot its first Chinese original TV series "The Sinner", a suspenseful gangster film. The male and female protagonists of the TV series are Zhang Xiaoquan and Jia Jingwen. The two play a nominal couple in the play. The same cast also includes Fan Xiaoxuan, Wang Bojie, Liu Ziqian, Zhou Mingfu, and Xu Guanghan. The story tells a series of stories about the gangster brother "A Quan" played by Zhang Xiaoquan who is waiting for the death penalty in prison.

"Dreamer" is directed by Chen Yingrong of "The Sky of 17". The whole series is scheduled to have eight episodes, each episode is 60 minutes. Filming will start in Taiwan, China in October and will be broadcast next year. "Because it is a Netflix series, it is reported that the scale is relatively large, and bloody fights and nudity scenes will be staged."

In August 2017, Netflix announced that it would create the first original Chinese-language TV series "The Ferryman", and would hand it over to "Free Man" director Ke Wenli to direct. However, due to personal reasons, the director was unable to continue, so Netflix started looking for suitable candidates and content again, and finally developed the current "The Sinner".

At the press conference, Chen Yingrong described "Dreamer" as a "gangster film". She had shot music videos with similar themes in the past, but this was her first time to do such a large-scale work. As for the story, she said it was literal: a criminal keeps dreaming, and this dream brings him clues and revelations about the crimes he committed, so he has a plan to escape from prison.
