According to domestic media reports, according to reliable sources, "Shadow" directed by Zhang Yimou, which will be released in mainland China on September 30, is expected to represent mainland China in the competition for the 2019 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Previously, director Zhang Yimou had been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film three times, namely "Ju Dou" (1990), "Raise the Red Lantern" (1991, representing Hong Kong, China), and "Hero" (2002). "Shadow," starring Deng Chao, Sun Li, Zheng Kai, Wang Qianyuan, Guan Xiaotong and others, is scheduled to be released in mainland China on September 30. This also meets the selection criteria for the Oscar foreign language film and needs to be commercially screened in the country before October. Previously, Zhang Yimou's "Hero" and "Curse of the Golden Flower" were both released in December. In order to meet the criteria for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, the films were screened commercially in October in a very small range. In addition to "Hero" being nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, "Curse of the Golden Flower" was also nominated for the Oscar for Best Costume Design. Whether "Shadow" will be nominated for an Oscar will be subject to the official announcement of the Oscars.
