Wuershan's new film "Zheng He's Voyages to the West" will be released in 2026 and will start shooting in the fourth quarter of this year

In an interview with China Film, Zhao Haicheng, chairman of China Film, revealed that the film Zheng He's Voyages to the West, directed by Wuershan, is scheduled to start shooting in the fourth quarter of this year, will be used for production throughout next year, and will be released in 2026.

The film is adapted from the real historical story of Zheng He's voyages to the West, and is directed by Wuershan, the director of "Fengshen Trilogy". The director team will give full play to the team's advantages, explore the ultimate audio-visual, show the Chinese aesthetic style, and inherit Chinese culture.

The treasure ship that Zheng He sailed on is the most important shooting scene and prop in the movie. Wuershan said that many scenes will be shot on the ship, and he has made a 100:1 model of the treasure ship. When the model is opened, the delicate internal structure can be seen.

Wuershan's "Zheng He's Voyages to the West" is confirmed to be shot in three parts, the first of which will be released in 2026. This time it is a national key project, so Wuershan does not have to worry about funding.

The full title of "Zheng He's Voyages to the West" previously filed with the Film Bureau is "Zheng He's Voyages to the West 1: The Dark Sea". The plot synopsis of the film is: In the second year of Yongle, Emperor Zhu Di of the Ming Dynasty wanted to lift the ban on sea trade and restore the sea route. Unexpectedly, the first batch of envoys to Southeast Asia did not return on time. The envoys disappeared, and rumors spread. Zhu Di then sent the chief envoy, the eunuch Zheng He, to the West to find out the truth about the envoy's disappearance and to establish good communication with the countries along the way and restore maritime trade.
