Dune 2 grossed $81.5 million in its first weekend at the North American box office

"Dune 2" took the North American box office by storm in its first weekend, earning $81.5 million and bringing its global box office total to $178.5 million.

It was also the biggest opening weekend for a film from director Denis Villeneuve and actors Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson and Austin Butler, Comscore reported.

It is worth noting that Dune 2's first weekend box office revenue was more than twice that of Dune 1 in 2021, but the latter was released during the COVID-19 pandemic and was simultaneously released on the streaming platform HBO Max on the same day the film was released.

According to Box Office Mojo, Dune 1 grossed $108.8 million in North America and $433.7 million worldwide.

Dune 2 has an MTC score of 79 and a user score of 8.4
