Japan's Toei Animation has teamed up with Sonic game designer Naoto Oshima to produce an English-language animated film that the studio is calling its "biggest CGI project to date." Titled Hypergalactic, the film is set in the near future and tells the story of an adventurous teenage girl (Elsie Fisher) and her brother, who embark on an adventure with the forgotten Earth protector Orkan (Adam Devine) to find their missing parents. The voice cast also includes famous actors JK Simmons (Spider-Man Movie Newspaper Editor, Invincible) and Sam Richardson. The film will be directed by David N. Weiss, who previously wrote the screenplay for Shrek 2 and The Smurfs. The script and characters were created by Naoto Oshima and Joseph Chou, co-producer of The Lord of the Rings: The Rohirrim Wars. The film is currently in post-production and has not yet been set for a release date. "Talented game designer Oshima-san has created an epic tale of multicultural adventure in Ultra Galaxy, combining unforgettable global characters with Japanese anime aesthetics and Western storytelling," Toei producer Yoshiyuki Ikezawa said in a statement. "We look forward to delivering our premium brand of animation to a wider global audience beyond our existing loyal fan base." |
