Gerard Butler to star in live-action How to Train Your Dragon as the protagonist's father

According to Deadline today (January 6), Gerard Butler will star in the live-action movie "How to Train Your Dragon" and play the protagonist Hiccup's father Stoick.

Mason Thames (The Black Telephone) plays Hiccup, Nicole Parker (The Last of Us) plays Astrid, and the animated version director Dean DeBlois returns to direct, write and serve as producer. The film will once again tell the adventure story of humans and dragons. It will be released in North America on June 13, 2025.

How to Train Your Dragon is a 3D fantasy computer-animated film produced by DreamWorks Animation and released in 2010. The story is adapted from the 2003 children's book How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. The voice actors in the film include Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Brass, David Tennant, Craig Fergus and Gerard Butler.
