Gary Oldman Wasn't Happy With His Harry Potter Performance As Sirius

Gary Oldman, the famous British actor who played Sirius Black in the Harry Potter film series, recently said that he was not particularly satisfied with his performance in the series.

In a new episode of American actor Josh Holloway's podcast "Happy, Sad, Confused", Oldman said in an interview that his performance in the role was very flat in the three films he participated in the series.

“I think my performance was mediocre,” Oldman said. “No… I really do. Maybe if I had read the books like Alan [Kleeman, who plays Professor Snape] did, if I had seen the sequels ahead of time, if I knew what was going on, I really think I would have performed it differently.”

He is very hard on himself. "I'll tell you why. Like anything, if I sit down and look at the work I've done and say, 'Oh my god, I'm really good,' that would be a very sad day because you want to do better the next time."

Previously, he said on the show "The Lu Barrymore Show" that he had just become a single father when he was chosen to play Sirius. He divorced his ex-wife in 2001 and won custody of his sons. He rejected many invitations to take care of his children because many performances at that time required real scenes to be filmed around the world. He is very grateful for "Harry Potter": "Thank God for giving me "Harry Potter". I tell you, these two works - "Batman" (he played Commissioner Gordon in the Nolan version) and "Harry Potter" - really, they saved me, because it means I can get the most for the least work and then go home with my children."

He is currently promoting his role in the Apple TV+ series "The Outcasts". The third season of the show has just finished, focusing on the British MI5 national security department. The fourth season has also been completed, in which he plays Jackson Lamb, the leader of the department called "Slow Horses".
