Which country has the most expensive movie theaters in the world? China ranks only eighth

Nowadays, even without popcorn and cola, the cost of watching a movie at the lowest price is tens or hundreds of yuan. But if we open up the "pattern" and look at the global market, we may find that the cost of watching a movie in the Chinese market is at a "OK" stage.

According to statistics from crowdsourcing data website Numbeo, Switzerland has the most expensive paper movie tickets in the world, with an average ticket costing nearly 140 yuan; followed closely by "rich" Saudi Arabia, with an average ticket price of 117 yuan.

Japan, which has a relatively strict copyright protection policy, has a ticket price of 93.8 yuan, ranking third. The United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore, and South Korea rank fourth to seventh.

The average ticket price in China is around 50 yuan, ranking eighth on the list. Compared with the high ticket prices in other countries, the ticket cost in China is not outstanding.

However, if we only consider ticket prices without considering income, it cannot strictly reflect the cost of watching movies. The website also compiled data on the number of movie screenings that can be watched with the average monthly salary in each country.

If all the salary was spent on watching movies, the Swiss could watch about 285 movies per month, while Chinese audiences could only watch 149. The figures for Russia, India, Türkiye and China are not much different.

Although the average ticket price in Thailand is lower, you can only watch 93 movies with your monthly salary. The happiest people should be those in Singapore, where the average monthly salary can afford to watch up to 450 movies, while the average monthly salary in the United States is 349.
