'Doctor Who' actor Richard Franklin dies at 87

Richard Franklin, an actor in the long-running British TV series "Doctor Who" and the soap opera "The Untold Story", died on Christmas morning local time at the age of 87. His old friend Líam Rudden made the news public on behalf of his family.

Rudden's post read: "It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Franklin asked me to share the news of his passing early this morning. Richard passed away peacefully in his sleep. Details of funeral arrangements will be shared here once announced. R.I.P. Richard."

Richard Franklin made his Doctor Who debut in 1971 as UNIT Captain Mike Yates. He has also appeared on the big screen as Death Star engineer Sirro Argonne in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
