Amber Heard claims her appearance time in Aquaman 2 was cut, James Wan clarifies

Actress Amber Heard (yes, the ex-girlfriend who once cosplayed as Musk's Angel in Overwatch) claimed in 2022 that her character Mera in the movie Aquaman 2: The Lost Kingdom was "cut" due to the lawsuit she filed against her ex-husband Johnny Depp. The film's director James Wan has officially responded to this statement.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, James Wan stated that the sequel will focus primarily on the protagonist Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and the villain Orm (Patrick Wilson), rather than Mera.

"I always proclaim this to everybody from the beginning," he said. "The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera's journey. The second movie was about Arthur and Orm. So the first one was a romantic action-adventure movie, and the second one was a bromance action-adventure movie. Let's just take it that way."

According to Entertainment Weekly, Heard claimed in court that she had to "fight hard to keep her career" after obtaining a restraining order against Depp. She said she "lost work and auditions." As for the "Aquaman 2" project, Heard claimed that Warner Bros., the studio behind the film, "didn't want me to be a part of it."

She also told the court that Warner Bros. "basically ripped the role off me."
