As two blockbuster "Barbie" films released at the same time compete, "Barbie" is still leading the way and is about to reach $1 billion at the global box office, while Christopher Nolan's biopic "Oppenheimer" has seen a slight increase in box office since the beginning of this week. Oppenheimer is being released in both standard cinema and premium IMAX formats around the world. IMAX has announced that it will extend the release of Oppenheimer in this format by one week. Originally scheduled to end on August 11, the run will now be extended to August 16/17. Since Oppenheimer was shot entirely with IMAX cameras and IMAX film by Nolan, Universal Pictures signed an exclusive three-week screening with IMAX. This is not Nolan's first IMAX-screened film, but it is definitely the longest. "Christopher Nolan holds a special place in the heart of IMAX because he uses and promotes our cameras," IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond told Variety in June. |
