According to the BBC, the Waterside Cinema in Londonderry, England, briefly showed indecent images during a screening of "Super Mario Bros. The Movie" last Friday. The Northern Irish police have now intervened in the investigation. The film screening was allegedly a summer activity for a group of children, most of whom were of elementary school age. It is believed that during the film an image of a partially undressed woman suddenly appeared on the screen for a few seconds before being quickly removed. On its official social media, Waterside Cinemas said it was aware of "an unfortunate but serious incident" that day and said: "The welfare of our customers is always our top concern and we will work with the pipeline authorities, which means we cannot comment further at this time." "We offer our sincerest apologies to everyone affected." The BBC reported that parents of children who attended the screening had been informed by organisers shortly after the incident, and Northern Ireland police have since been called in to investigate. A police spokesman said an investigation was ongoing and asked "anyone with information that may assist with the investigation to contact police." |
