Illumination Entertainment CEO denies movie version of The Legend of Zelda

The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment, has created the second highest box office record in the history of animated films. Both gamers and animation fans are looking forward to the next collaboration between the two parties. Previously, there was news that Nintendo has decided to cooperate with Illumination Entertainment again to create an animated film version of another super IP, which is The Legend of Zelda. Although the rumor seems quite credible, the CEO of Illumination Entertainment recently denied the news.

In an interview with TheWarp, Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination Entertainment and external director of Nintendo, responded to speculation about The Legend of Zelda: The Movie. He said:

"I don't know where this came from. I mean, I can understand how people speculate on all kinds of things because obviously we had a great experience working together. I'm on Nintendo's board of directors now, so I understand how people speculate on these things. But in terms of specifics, this is just a lot of rumors that I've heard. This is the next step in the collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment."

Given the partnership between Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment, it seems reasonable for them to produce a movie version of "The Legend of Zelda", but it may not be convenient to announce it at the moment.
