Disney has announced release dates for a number of its upcoming films, including the planned sequels from writer-director James Cameron's Avatar. The next three Avatar movies have all been delayed by a year, meaning the entire series should now end in 2031. Avatar 3 is now scheduled to be released on December 19, 2025, and Avatar 4 will be released on December 21, 2029. Avatar 5, if it is made, may end the series and is scheduled to be released on December 19, 2031. Variety reports that if all of these plans remain intact, the time between the original Avatar and Avatar 5 will be 22 years. Disney also announced that the next Star Wars movie will also be delayed to May 22, 2026 (originally scheduled for December 2025), and postponed the release dates of the new Avengers movies (Kang Dynasty was postponed from 2025 to May 2026, and Secret Wars was postponed to 2027). At the same time, Disney moved up the release date of Deadpool 3 to May 2024. Avatar: The Way of Water premiered in late 2022 and grossed over $2.3 billion, becoming the third-highest-grossing film of all time. The original Avatar remains in first place with $2.92 billion. In addition to the movie, Ubisoft's game "Avatar: Pandora's Frontier" is scheduled to be released in December 2023. |
