Sony Pictures CEO hits back at negative reviews of Spider-Man: Spider-Man: Madame Spider performs well on streaming media

Following the negative reviews after the release of "Kraven the Hunter", Sony Pictures seems to have stopped the subsequent development of the Spider-Man Universe (SSU) series of films. "TheWrap" also quoted a Sony insider as saying that "these movies are just not good."

However, in a recent interview with the foreign media "LATimes", Tony Vinciquerra, the outgoing chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures, hit back at the negative reviews of the Spider-Man universe series of movies and believed that these movies are great. Although Vinciquerra admitted that "Kraven the Hunter" "may be the worst opening in his 7 and a half years at the helm", he complained: "I still don't understand it, because this movie is not bad."

Vinciquerra blamed the media for SSU's failure. He said: "Let's talk about Spider-Madame first. Spider-Madame didn't do well in theaters because the media just criticized it. It's not a bad movie, it did well on Netflix. For some reason, the media didn't want us to make adaptations like Kraven the Hunter and Spider-Madame. The critics just ruined them."

Vinciquerra also cited the "Venom" series as an example, saying: "They did the same thing with "Venom", but the audience liked "Venom", and "Venom" became a great success. These movies are not bad, but for some reason, they were ruined by media critics."

However, foreign media "The Escapist" does not think so. First of all, the reason for the success of "Spider-Mrs." on streaming media is that the audience may not want to go to the theater to watch the movie, but considering that the film is included in the paid streaming service, they choose to watch it out of curiosity, and emphasize that "morbid curiosity is the reason why many bad movies are successful on Netflix."

Secondly, regarding the Venom series, if the media "decided not to let us make these movies," then why was Venom such a box office success? Critics also gave the movie a bad review, and the same was true for its sequel. In fact, Venom is one of the most popular characters in Spider-Man's works, and one of the few characters that can support a movie without Spider-Man, which is why it is successful.
