No more T-800, Schwarzenegger: I will not participate in the new "Terminator" in the future

In a recent interview with Hollywood Reporter, famous actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was asked whether he would shoot a new "Terminator" movie. He said that he has parted ways with the classic sci-fi series.

"The franchise isn't over yet, but I'm done with it," Schwarzenegger said. "I got the clear message that the world wants to move on with a different theme when it comes to The Terminator. Someone has to come up with a good idea. The Terminator had a big influence on my success, so I'll always love it."

He added: "The first three movies were great. I didn't do the fourth one because I was the governor. And then the fifth and sixth ones were not great as far as I was concerned. We knew ahead of time (that they wouldn't do well) because they were not well-written."

Terminator 3, directed by Jonathan Mostow after the original director James Cameron pulled out, grossed over $400 million worldwide, which convinced Hollywood to continue the series. The fifth film also made a lot of money, but Tim Miller's sixth film, Dark Fate, completely ignored the plot of the previous three films and ultimately killed the series as an anticlimactic sequel to Terminator 2.

Despite the subsequent return of Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton for the sixth film, it lost over $122.6 million at the box office, essentially "ending" all plans for future Terminator films.

Cameron previously revealed on the SmartLess podcast that if he were to make another Terminator movie (there have been discussions about it but nothing has been decided), he would "focus more on the artificial intelligence aspect of it" rather than the action scenes surrounding the robots.
