Cage eats insects in "Renfield": Very nutritious, all humans should eat it

Nicolas Cage, one of the internet's most enduring meme kings, has finally made his way back to the screen with a series of entertaining indie projects years after being forced out of Hollywood. His latest film, Rainfield, sees him play Dracula, the king of vampires, and he and co-star Nicholas Hoult ate real insects during the making of the film.

In fact, Cage is a believer in "eating insects", and he believes that eating insects is very beneficial. And Holt is not averse to eating insects.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cage said: "If we could all get over our fear of eating insects, we could solve world hunger. They're high in protein, fat-free, very nutritious, and they're plentiful and everywhere. But, no, we're not going to do that!"

Holt said that the crickets he and Cage ate had a "smoky bacon flavor" and a hint of salt and vinegar. He said: "I like salt and vinegar very much, so I was quite happy to eat crickets. Occasionally there would be a little bit stuck in the teeth. But at the same time, the prop team is also very good..."

In the movie, Hoult's character also eats cockroaches and worms, but these are all movie magic: the cockroaches are made of church, and the worms are bug-looking gummy bears in crushed Oreos that look like dirt.

In a later interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Cage also said that Hoult actually ate potato worms during the filming. Hoult was not so fond of potato worms, saying: "It tasted bad. It didn't dry well, so it just tasted like a worm."

Cage previously ate a live cockroach in 1988's Vampire's Kiss (the same film where he made that famous face expression)... so eating bugs is nothing new to him.
