The director of "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" said that Keanu's role as Shat is perfect: very deep

Currently, the movie "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" has been released in overseas theaters. The biggest highlight of the new film is that the beloved character Shat is played by the equally beloved actor Keanu Reeves.

Recently, director Jeff Fowler revealed the reason why he chose Keanu in an interview with Deadline. He said that the story of Sonic 3 changed the tone of the series, and with the addition of Shat, it became more mysterious. Ben Schwartz's Sonic is an energetic character with his mouth and body constantly moving, while Shat is the complete opposite.

"Sonic speaks 100 words per minute, while Shadow only speaks five words an hour," Fowler said. "He's a closed book, more mysterious and deeper. Shadow and Sonic are a yin and yang. From a narrative perspective, this is a great opportunity, like there is also a version of Bizarro (a Superman clone) in Sonic's origin story."

He went on to praise Keanu's ability to "channel the complexity within Shadow, and a little bit of danger and darkness," while still being likeable: "He's a beloved actor. That's what we needed with Shadow - that complexity, that gloom, and something that made it feel completely different from Sonic. Keanu was absolutely perfect in that."

Keanu can be said to be the most "heartwarming" actor in Hollywood. His support for the crew members involved in the project and his natural and approachable performance outside the camera are also loved by fans. Of course, he is also a representative of deep and dangerous. Not only did he play the most famous killer in "John Wick", his lost look sitting on a bench is also a classic meme.

In the same interview, the director also reflected on the progress the film series has made since the first trailer in 2019: the original Sonic design was "knocked" by many fans, causing the team to quickly create a new design. Although this is not common for large film productions, Fowler believes it is very worthwhile.

"Every movie has its own challenges, and obviously we had some well-known redesigns, but those have become some of the fun facts in our story. This is a wonderful relationship we have with our fans that I embrace. They voice their opinions, and we hear them and address them. Now that history is part of our good relationship."
