Recently, the nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards were announced, and "Better Days" was shortlisted for this year's Best International Film. This is the first time in 18 years that a Chinese-language film has been shortlisted for the Oscar for Foreign Language Film, following Zhang Yimou's "Hero" in 2003.

After the film "Better Days" was released in China in 2019, it received rave reviews, with a Douban score of 8.3 and a box office of 1.56 billion yuan. The film won eight awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, and Best New Actor at the 39th Hong Kong Film Awards, and was shortlisted for the New Generation Unit at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival. In November 2020, the film was shortlisted for the Best Feature Film at the 33rd China Film Golden Rooster Awards.

The 93rd Academy Awards ceremony will be postponed to April 25.
