Oscar-nominated screenwriter Jon Spaihts has signed on to write Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Gears of War. Spaihts was recently nominated for an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for Dune, which he co-wrote with directors Denis Villeneuve and Eric Roth. Jon Spaihts will also write the upcoming Dune sequel. In addition to Dune, he has also worked on Prometheus, Doctor Strange, Passengers and The Mummy. "Gears of War is one of the greatest action games ever made, with vivid characters, a beautifully designed world, and a combat system that fully recognizes the lethality of war and the importance of supporting your teammates," Spaihts told Netflix. "It wants to be cinematic, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to help it do just that." Last November, Netflix announced that it would collaborate with game developer The Coalition to launch multiple Gears of War works, one of which is a live-action movie. Netflix said that after the live-action movie, there will be an adult animation of Gears of War and subsequent works. |
