"Wicked" grosses over $520 million worldwide, "Wicked: Eternal" to be released in 2025

According to foreign media reports, Universal Pictures has renamed the second part of the hit 2024 musical film "Wicked" to "Wicked: For Good". This sequel tells the second act of the popular Broadway musical.

Wicked: Eternal tells the story of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) after she gains full control of her superpowers and is declared an enemy of the state by the Sorcerer (Jeff Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh). The sequel's new title is inspired by a moving song in the second act, which tells the story of how the Wicked Witch of the West and the good Glinda (Ariana Grande) are changed by their friendship.

The movie "Wicked" (Part 1) was released in North America on November 22, and has earned $359 million so far. Its global box office revenue has exceeded $524 million, making it the second highest-grossing stage play adaptation film in the world after "Mamma Mia" (US$611 million).

"Wicked: Eternal" will be released in North America on November 21, 2025.
