Japanese comics are so popular in France that they have long been defined as the ninth art form

Speaking of non-Japanese countries that like Japanese comics, France is definitely in the first tier. The French comics market has become the second largest in the world after Japan, growing fourfold in 10 years, and has been defined as the ninth largest art.

According to foreign media statistics, the size of the French comics market is about 381 million euros in 2022, ranking second in the world. It has increased fourfold in 10 years, and the mainstream of the market is Japanese-style comics rather than American-style. The French are familiar with some well-known Japanese comics and are even more obsessed with them than Japanese readers.

In France, there have only been eight major art forms since ancient times, namely: architecture, sculpture, painting, music, literature, drama, film and media art. After entering the 20th century, comics gradually became popular in society and were eventually defined as the ninth art form.
