Japanese Animation Movie Box Office: Blue Superstar debuts at No. 8

The theatrical premiere of the upcoming TV anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Swordsmith Village is now in its third week of release, and the box office ranking has dropped from No. 1 to No. 2. This week, the film attracted 246,000 viewers and grossed 340,125,910 yen. The total number of viewers for the animated film is now 1.874 million, with a cumulative revenue of 2.637 billion yen.

The film premiered on February 3 and will be screened in MX4D, 4DX and Dolby Cinema on February 25. The theatrical version includes episodes 11 and 12 of the TV anime "Yukuoku Arc" and episode 1 of the "Swordsmith Village Arc".

The new theatrical version of Slam Dunk grossed 240,981,810 yen at the weekend box office. It has been in theaters for 12 weeks now, falling from 2nd place last week to 4th place. The cumulative revenue is now 10.775 billion yen. The movie ranked 1st in its first week, and it premiered in Japan on December 3rd, with a first-week revenue of 1.296 billion yen.

The manga-adapted animated film "Blue Superstar" premiered in Japan this Friday and ranked 8th. The film's box office performance in the first three days was 116,561,020 yen.

This film is directed by Joe Tachikawa, who supervised all three seasons of Death Parade and Psycho Psycho 100, and produced by NUT Studio. The screenwriter is the editor of the original work, NUMBER 8. The theatrical version is released by Toho Animation.

Makoto Shinkai's "The Journey of Bell Buds" grossed 94,789,710 yen in Japan this weekend, and has been in theaters for 15 weeks, falling from fourth place last week to ninth place. The cumulative box office of the film has reached 13.748 billion yen.

It ranks 16th in box office revenue in Japanese film history, surpassing Top Gun: Maverick in Japan, and is also the 10th highest-grossing Japanese animated film in history.

The film was released on November 11th and ranked first in its opening week. It sold 1.33 million tickets in three days and earned 1.88 billion yen.
