The Alien series will begin production this year, created by the creators of Fargo

FX President John Landgraf has confirmed that an FX-produced series set in the Alien universe is ready for production this year.

The Alien series was originally announced in January 2021 and was jointly created by Fargo producer Noah Hawley and Alien film director Ridley Scott. The series will be a prequel to Scott's classic 1979 sci-fi horror film Alien.

The script for the Alien series has now been completed and is currently in an "active pre-production phase" and will begin filming after creator Noah Hawley finishes Fargo Season 5. Hawley once revealed that the story is set on Earth and is not a story with Ripley as the protagonist, but rather continues to explore human nature like those Alien movies.

The Alien universe has expanded tremendously since Alien was released on September 6, 1979. Scott returned to direct two more sequels in the main trilogy, as well as the prequels Prometheus and Covenant, which greatly expanded the world surrounding the alien threat. There have also been multiple video games, comics, novels, and a crossover film with Predator, which have introduced new characters and threats.

The Alien series will be set on Earth 70 years from now and will tell the story of a protagonist struggling to stop the insidious spread of the alien threat, although there is a possibility of failure.
