"Avatar 2" has won the North American box office for four consecutive years and the global box office has exceeded 1.7 billion US dollars

"Avatar 2" achieved four consecutive championships in the United States, with the box office increasing by another 45 million US dollars this past weekend. However, "Avatar 2" has ushered in a strong competitor - "Megan" directed by James Wan. The box office of this movie reached 30.2 million US dollars in its first weekend, although the budget was only 12 million US dollars.

Universal and Blumhouse’s horror doll thriller “Megan” took in $14.8 million internationally, bringing the film’s total to $45 million, Variety reported.

It was predicted that Megan would take in around $17-20 million in North America, but the film had a very good reputation and obviously broke the prediction with its opening weekend box office. Megan is also the first movie to take in more than $30 million in its first weekend since Devil Inside in 2012 (which took in $33.7 million in its first weekend).

Although Megan had an impressive debut, it still couldn't shake the behemoth of Avatar 2. Its fourth-weekend box office of $45 million was only 35% lower than its third week, and it will continue to soar on the list of the highest-grossing movies in history.

The latest data shows that "Avatar 2" has grossed more than $1.7 billion worldwide, making it the seventh-highest-grossing movie in film history.

According to Box Office Mojo, Avatar 2 surpassed Jurassic World ($1.67 billion) and was slightly behind Spider-Man 3: No Homecoming ($1.916 billion). It is worth mentioning that Avatar 1 grossed a total of $2.922 billion.
