DEADLINE revealed the first stills of the new movie starring Milla Jovovich, the female lead of the old "Resident Evil" series, "Breathe", an action film produced by the "John Wick" production company. Jovovich will star alongside Jennifer Hudson, Sam Worthington, Quvenzhane Wallis and Common. The story follows a mother named Maya (Hudson) and her daughter (Wallis) who are forced to live underground after the Earth becomes uninhabitable due to a lack of oxygen. The state-of-the-art oxygen suits made by Maya’s husband Darius (Common), who she believes is dead, only make short trips possible. When a mysterious couple claims to know Darius and his whereabouts, Maya tentatively agrees to let them into their bunker, but are they hiding other secrets? Stefon Bristol will direct the film, which is currently in post-production, based on a popular script from Doug Simon's The Black List survey (an annual survey of the "most popular" screenplays yet to be made). Breathe is Bristol’s second film as director, having previously collaborated with Spike Lee on his debut feature See You Yesterday, which premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival and earned him a 2020 Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best First Feature Film. No release date has yet been announced for the new film. |
