According to foreign media reports, Mexican lady María Salud Ramírez Caballero, the inspiration for Mama Coco, Miguel's great-grandmother in the Disney animation "Coco," died recently in her hometown at the age of 109. The specific cause of death has not been announced. María Salud was born in 1913 in the small town of Purépecha, Santa Fe de La Laguna, in central Mexico. Like most other residents of the community, she was a mud worker until 2017, when her life took a turn after her image became the inspiration for a hit animated film with international status. She was a mother of three children and grandmother to many grandchildren, who in previous interviews with local media described her as a loving grandmother with a good personality. Roberto Monroy, the Minister of Tourism of María's hometown, expressed regret for her death, saying she was an example of hardworking and courageous women and mothers' lives. Coco is a feature-length animation jointly produced by Disney and Pixar Animation Studios and released in 2017. The film is inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead and tells the story of Miguel, a little boy who loves music, and Hector, a down-and-out musician, who embark on a wonderful adventure in a colorful and mysterious world. The film also won the Best Animated Feature Film at the 90th Academy Awards. |
