Official memorial service held on third anniversary of Kyoto Animation arson case

Kyoto Animation (hereinafter referred to as KyoAni) today released a memorial video for the third anniversary of the arson attack on the company, and expressed its heartfelt gratitude to fans for their continued friendly support. The company made animations while supporting each other with grief, and has been moving forward day by day since then. Although the company had been considering holding a prayer memorial ceremony, it decided to broadcast a memorial video on the YouTube channel as it did last year.

Kyoto Animation is a company located in Kyoto, Japan, whose main business is animation planning, production and technical guidance related to animation production. During its establishment, it brought us popular anime works such as "Hyouka", "K-ON!", "Tamako Market", "Violet Evergarden", "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya", and "CLANNAD".

The company suddenly exploded and caught fire at 10:35 local time on July 18, 2019, causing the complete destruction of the Kyoto Animation Studio from the 1st to the 3rd floor, resulting in 36 deaths and 35 injuries. Subsequent investigations showed that the accident was maliciously set by a 41-year-old man named Shinji Aoba, who was formally arrested by local police in May 2020.
