According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), 20th Century Fox has appointed Fede Alvarez, the director of "Don't Breathe" (2016) and "Evil Dead" (2013), to direct an original, independent "Alien" film, and "Alien" series director Ridley Scott will serve as producer. 20th Century Fox plans to produce more than 10 films for Disney's streaming service Hulu within a year, and "Alien" is one of them. THR reported that director Fede Alvarez was a fan of the "Alien" series and had pitched a proposal to Scott many years ago. Scott kept the proposal in mind until the end of last year, when Scott called Fede Alvarez and asked if he still wanted to shoot. 20th Century Fox accepted Fede Alvarez's proposal, and Steve Asbell, president of the film division, said: "This is a very good story with a group of characters you haven't seen before."
