It will be great news for comic book fans and dog lovers alike, as James Gunn, writer and director of the new Superman film, has confirmed that everyone's favorite superdog will be heading to the big screen. Gunn took to social media on Tuesday to announce that Superman's loyal superdog Krypto will be part of the film (confirming previous rumors), and also provided the first stills, which show Superman and Krypto gazing at Earth from afar, similar to the comic strip Gunn shared. There is also a heartwarming story behind this. Gunn revealed that the inspiration for Krypton came from his own beloved dog "Ozu". He and his wife (Jennifer Holland, the heroine of "The Peacemaker") adopted the dog shortly after he began writing "Superman". Ozu "came from a backyard with 60 dogs who had never known humans, which was problematic to say the least." "Once it came in it destroyed our home, our shoes, our furniture -- it even ate my laptop. It was a long time before he let us touch it. I remember thinking, 'Oh my god, if Ozu had super powers, life would be so hard' -- and then the Kryptonian came into the script and changed the shape of the story, just as Ozu changed my life." He also added that it is "Adopt a Dog Month" and made a little reference to Krypton, who appears in the movie, calling him a "not-so-good good kid." Supplementary information Krypto is deeply rooted in the hearts of comic fans, perhaps because it meets people's beautiful imagination of pet dogs. Like Superman, it comes from Krypton, and grew up with Superman in his youth, played with him, traveled through the sky, and strolled through the universe together. It is loyal, obedient, and brave. As Superman's dog, of course he has a red cape. |
