Variety reported today (October 15) that Warner expects to lose $150 million to $200 million on "Joker 2: Double Delusion". The film is expected to be released on digital streaming platforms on October 29 and is expected to be released in domestic theaters on October 16.

It is reported that the production cost of "Joker 2: Double Delusion" is about US$200 million, and the marketing and distribution costs are about US$100 million. However, the global box office revenue was only US$165 million two weeks after its release.

According to Variety, citing industry insiders and executives from competing studios, the film will need $450 million to break even, while some believe it will need $375 million. It is predicted that the Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga film will not even come close to those box office revenues, and will eventually take in $210-215 million worldwide.

In a statement to Variety, a Warner Bros. spokesperson called such predictions from insiders and competitors “completely untrue rumors being presented as fact.”

If predictions from industry insiders and competing studios prove correct, the film will go down as one of the biggest flops in comic book cinema.
