Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft showrunner Tasha Ho revealed that game developer Crystal Dynamics would "subtly hint" at what could and couldn't be included in the new Netflix series - to avoid any overlap with their new Tomb Raider game. "What's interesting is that they've been very tight-lipped even to me about new content coming to the video game, which I feel is right because I would get too excited," Huo said of his working relationship with Crystal Dynamics, which has spearheaded the series since 2006's Tomb Raider: Legend. “It’s more that they’ll gently hint at it, like, ‘This is OK, this is OK, maybe don’t do that because we might be thinking about that in the game as well.’ There’s nothing concrete, but it’s kind of exciting.” Speaking about the collaborative process, Huo expressed surprise at how open he was to creating in the world of Tomb Raider. “I was actually surprised at how much creative space there was. There were so many different directions I could have gone, and I really wanted to go with this bridge [between the Survivor Trilogy and the original trilogy],” Huo explained. “Early on in developing the overall story and in discussions with Crystal Dynamics – they knew they had a game coming out, it was a discussion about ‘How does this fit into canon?’ Because we wanted it to fit into canon, we didn’t want it to be a random story that everyone would kind of forget about and not be considered true to Lara.” A new Tomb Raider game, a "cinematic action-adventure game," was announced for 2022. Since then, little has been revealed other than it's "progressing well." |
