Rumor: Sony wants Emma Stone to play Spider-Woman, Black Cat project is also in the works

The box office success of Spider-Man: No Homecoming has greatly increased Sony's confidence in this IP. In addition to cooperating with Marvel on another trilogy starring Tom Holland, there are also plans for a Spider-Man project in the Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire universes. Recently, there have been rumors that they want Emma Stone to return to play Spider-Gwen.

As we all know, Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone, died in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which echoes the content of The Amazing Spider-Man #31 in 1965. Gwen was one of Peter Parker's many girlfriends, and her death is one of the most iconic moments in comic history.

In the 2014 comic "Edge of Spider-Verse #2", Gwen was redefined as Spider-Woman and was slowly incorporated into the main Marvel Universe. She made her grand debut in the 2018 animated film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse", voiced by Hailee Steinfeld.

The rumors have not been officially confirmed yet. There are also rumors that Sony wants "The Queen's Gambit" actress Anya Taylor-Joy to play Black Cat (Felicia Hardy). Although this role was played by Felicity Jones in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", that movie was not successful and Sony did not continue to develop this role.
