'Back to the Future' movie prop hoverboard sells for $500,000 at auction

In the second film of Back to the Future released in 1989, the protagonist Marty McFly traveled to the future world of 2015 and rode a hoverboard on the street, which was very impressive. After the movie was released, the director said that the skateboard used in the movie was real. This prop is highly sought after as a collectible and is autographed by Michael J. Fox.

A few years ago, the price of a prop hoverboard was as high as $40,000 (about RMB 254,912). In an auction in 2018, it was sold for $102,000 (about RMB 650,025). Its price has skyrocketed several times in just a few years.

Recently, an overseas auction house auctioned this hoverboard again and sold it for US$501,200 (approximately RMB 3,194,047). This transaction also broke the global record for the unit price of movie-related products.
