The 1995 classic sci-fi action film Waterworld starring Kevin Costner is getting a TV sequel. Producer John Davis recently told Collider that he is developing a TV series based on the film, which Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Boys) is expected to direct, focusing on the stories of the characters in the film 20 years later. The project is currently in the early stages of development at Universal Television and is planned to be released on streaming media.

The film version tells the story of a man with a past who has changed his body to adapt to life at sea due to the melting of polar glaciers and rising sea levels, and is regarded as a monster.
