■ Story

The year is 2004. On Earth, where science has advanced to the point where it is now possible to send communication messages to aliens, the high-performance robot Atom works day and night. Atom and his comrades from the moon base, Number 7, head off to rescue him, and learn of the existence of aliens targeting Earth.

■Detailed review

"Astro Boy: The Hero of Space" was loved by many fans as the first feature film based on the original work by Osamu Tezuka. By reconstructing selected episodes from the TV series and adding new scenes, the story is told in greater depth. In particular, the scene in which Atom struggles to rescue Dr. Ochanomizu is deeply moving to the audience.

The appeal of this movie is, above all, the character of Atom. Although he is a boy robot whose energy source is nuclear power, Atom has a wealth of human emotions, and this appeals to a wide range of people, from children to adults. In addition, Atom's seven amazing functions provide visual interest and liven up the story.

Characters such as Dr. Ochanomizu, Uran, and Higeoyaji also play important roles in supporting the story. Dr. Ochanomizu's gentleness and knowledge, Uran's tomboyish personality, and Higeoyaji's sense of justice each contribute to Atom's growth and add depth to the story.

Visually, this film is also noteworthy. The episodes, which were in black and white in the TV series, were shown in color for the first time, which greatly enhanced the visual impact. In particular, episode 56, "The Earth Defense Force," was produced entirely in color, and episode 71, "The Last Day of Earth," was partially in color, which must have been a fresh experience for viewers at the time.

The audio was also re-recorded, adding a new appeal to the film. Mari Shimizu's voice as Atom is full of emotion and captures the hearts of viewers. The voice actors for each character, including Hisashi Katsuta as Professor Ochanomizu, Yoko Mizugaki as Uran, and Masaaki Yajima as Higeoyaji, also deliver excellent performances.

Music is also an important element in enhancing the appeal of this film. The instrumental music for "Astro Boy," composed by Tatsuo Takai, enhances the tension and emotion of the story. In particular, the music in the scene where Astro Boy fights in space captivates the viewers.
